Day 1: Settling in & starting up

Brunsvigia Marginala (March Lilly)

Cape Leopard Tracks

 Flower Chafer (Trichostetha fascicularis)

The 2012 Toyota Enviro Outreach has started in all earnest with scientist from all over the country and abroad arriving with their equipment at Klipbokkop Mountain Reserve in the Western Cape.

The focus of this year will be to identify invasive species and to collect DNA for further use. Along the way all other interesting species will also be collected and identified. Focus fields of interest this year will be to sample species from botany and zoology.

Some of the scientists were out early today to experience the environment and the possibilities for finds.  Back at the lab they identify the special finds of the day.

The false Nerine forms part of March lilies (Brusvigia Marginata) and is very localised and flowers only during early Autumn.

The flower chafer (Trichostetha fascicularis) commonly find in Proteas and the genus is Cape Montane with 10 species of which this is the only wide spread with 4 sub species.
